Zillow Releases Neighborhoods in Shapefile Format


The Zillow Blog has announced the release of shapefile data of boundaries for over 7,000 neighborhoods covering 150 cities in the United States.  Given that it’s unusual for a private enterprise to make GIS data so freely available, Zillow explained their moved by saying:

So, after all this work, why are we giving this data away for free? Here at Zillow, we’re all about transparency — we think a freely available and totally transparent nationwide data-set of neighborhoods will result in some great innovation that we’re excited to check out.
