Listed here are resources for working with raster data.  Learn how to work with digital elevation models (DEM) and other raster GIS data in order to preform spatial analysis.  Resources are organized by software application.

General Raster Tutorials

Remote Sensing Tutorial Introduction
Introductory tutorial on remote sensing provided by the Applied Information Sciences Branch at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. 

USGS Center for LIDAR Information Coordination and Knowledge
Otherwise known as CLICK: “the goal of CLICK is to facilitate data access, user coordination and education of lidar remote sensing for scientific needs.”

ArcGIS (ESRI ArcView and ArcInfo)

Raster GIS Tutorial
Tutorial from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design using ArcGIS and Spatial Analyst.  The tutorial includes downloadable sample data to explore, manipulate and analyze raster data.

Raster: The ‘Other’ GIS Data
Tutorial from Yale University Library on working with raster data in ArcGIS.  Tutorial available in either PDF or Word format and sample data is provided for downloading. 

Using ArcGIS for Archaeology – Tutorials
Tutorials geared toward archaeologists.  Specific towards raster data manipulation are the two tutorials entitled Creating 3D Terrain Models for Site Visualization and Generating Viewsheds.
