Glossies via Google Maps
It’s always interesting to come across a non-geographic use for geographic technology. Zkimmer, which uses the tagline “the visual web”, is promoting reading magazines using Google Maps. The technology is experimental and several sample magazine issues from 2007 are available for browsing using the standard pan and zoom tools typically used for navigating geographic data. For example, the September 2007 issue of Wired is available for perusing. While it’s an interesting strategy, the technique didn’t really work for me. I liked the ability to see the entire layout at one shot, accessing and zooming into an individual page was tricky.
