GeoSearch News

The beta version of MetaCarta’s GeoSearch News was recently launched. According to MetaCarta’s web site, the mapping service pulls from more thatn 1,400 international, national and local news organizations to present a 30-day window of news events around the world.  Users can search for news items by place and/or subject matter.  News items are displayed over Google Maps and also listed in a table that is sortable by date, place and headline.  As you broaden the timeframe and also zoom in to specific areas, more news items become available especially in areas on the map that, at a small scale or set at “Last 24 hours”, may seem to be devoid of news items.

  1. There are actually news results in Central America, Africa, and Australia, but you may have to move the map around a bit, or zoom in on those areas to show them. You may also have to change the timeframe from the default of “Last 24 hours” to “This month”.
