Attack in the United States – The Story in Imagery

This past Tuesday’s horrific events have devastated both the landscape and people worldwide. Satellites from a variety of sources were able to capture the devastation from space.

Space imaging has a gallery of satellite photos taken both before and after the attack showing the changes in the New York Skyline. The image below shows the World Trade Center as taken on June 23, 2000.

Ikonos snapped this image of the World Trade Center September 12, 2001 at 11:43 a.m. Where the twin towers once stood, only plumes of smoke and dust are now visible from space.

Collected at 11:46 a.m. on September 12, 2001, the damage to the Pentagon is clear in this one-meter resolution image from Ikonos.
