PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AFPN) — The White House announced May 1 the United States will discontinue “selective availability” of the global positioning system signals available to the public. SA is the intentional degradation of signals transmitted by Navstar GPS satellites, providing civilian users with accuracy less than what’s used by the military. With the removal of SA, GPS accuracy improves up to tenfold, according to Air Force Space Command officials. The new policy went into effect immediately. Read more
